Services
Natural Resource Planning provides a broad spectrum of natural resource management and planning services.
Property management planning
NRP prepares comprehensive and professional natural resource management plans for rural businesses. This includes plans designed to address important current issues (e.g. ecologically responsible management, carbon sequestration and storage) and natural resource inventories and plans for regional scale projects (such as those conducted by NRM organisations).
Scientific services
Natural Resource Planning provides professional, scientific services for natural resource projects, programs and organisations. These services often require integration across a number of facets of natural resources such as GIS, environmental sciences, data management and customisation, reporting and evaluation systems.
Natural resource inventory and survey
NRP has extensive experience and expertise in surveying natural resources and related features (e.g. property infrastructure). These services can be provided as stand alone mapping, as integrated management plans, or customised to meet client needs. These services can be based on field surveys, desktop data, or any combination of the two. We provide professional field survey services for a range of natural resources - land, soils, water, geomorphology, flora, fauna, vegetation, carbon storage and forest inventory. We combine this with data analysis (including of remote sensed imagery) to produce science-based reports and advice. Our broad experience and ability to conduct multi-disciplinary investigations ensures efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Geographic information systems (GIS)
NRP's GIS services range from simple map production through to sophisticated and integrated systems that address the needs of large scale natural resource projects. Our directors have worked on some of the largest projects undertaken in Tasmania, including many that involve very large statewide data sets or which have underpinned the decision-making of major natural resource funding programs. We also deliver GIS services at the property scale, including design and customisation of software and data.
Advisory services
NRP provides advice to clients on some of the main issues which impact on natural resource management - conservation frameworks, research issues, planning schemes, policy implications and program development. These advisory services recognise that significant barriers to natural resource objectives can arise - deliberately or otherwise - if natural resource management science is disconnected from implementation. Our advisory services aim to help prevent and address such barriers.
Research and development
Although much of our work is project-specific, it is backed up by a proactive research and development program, which includes:
- Regular review of leading scientific journals and other relevant publications, and maintenance of an extensive research database for use in our projects;
- Continual development and improvement of methods to store, integrate, interpret and present natural resource data;
- Maintaining an overview of programs and projects that seek to address natural resource management in Tasmania; and
- Regular interaction with Government and other organisations involved in natural resource management in Tasmania.
The research and development program also means Natural Resource Planning is well placed to service clients with advice on current thinking, issues and trends in natural resource science, management and policy.
